Senator Harper started the Egg Hunt in 1983 when she was the Councilwoman for the 2nd District. She wanted a free family event within the community where kids and their parents could have fun while being able to meet and fellowship with elected officials and community leaders. Her first and only Sponsor in 1983 was her husband Paul Harper.
